Murder melody (Doc Savage #15) review

Posted : 10 years, 10 months ago on 10 June 2013 03:32 (A review of Murder melody (Doc Savage #15))

I am a big fan of Doc Savage but I have never been able to read all of this book. It's terrible! After at least three tries to read it I finally gave up and decided it was unreadable. The only thing this book has going for it is the usual fantastic cover by James Bama. This wasn't written by Lester Dent but by another writer named Lawrence Donovan. For completists only.

Gangster Squad review

Posted : 11 years, 3 months ago on 19 January 2013 01:51 (A review of Gangster Squad)

A poor rehash of the much better movie version of The Untouchables.
Utterly predictable and it has little in common with the true story that alledgedly inspired it. At times I felt like I was watching a Dick Tracy movie. When Josh Brolin wears a fedora he resembles Dick Tracy and
Sean Penn's makeup makes him look like a member of Tracy's Rogue's Gallery.

Doctor Who and the Day of the Daleks (Target adventure series) review

Posted : 11 years, 4 months ago on 24 December 2012 10:21 (A review of Doctor Who and the Day of the Daleks (Target adventure series))

A novelization that easily surpasses the TV story it is based on. Definetly worth seeking a copy. A most enjoyable read. One of the best books in the Target Doctor Who series.

Time Out review

Posted : 11 years, 4 months ago on 15 December 2012 08:53 (A review of Time Out)

One of the best albums ever made in the history of Upright Man. Excellent music regardless of genre. No Jazz collection can be complete without or any serious collection American music. A timeless and essential work of art.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower review

Posted : 11 years, 6 months ago on 22 October 2012 05:24 (A review of The Perks of Being a Wallflower)

In case anyone is wondering "the tunnel song" is Heroes by David Bowie. A very good movie with strong performances by all three leads.
I was especially impressed by Emma Watson. If she chooses to continue to pursue an acting career she has the potential for a great career.

Trouble with the Curve review

Posted : 11 years, 7 months ago on 23 September 2012 07:17 (A review of Trouble with the Curve)

Since the movie has just been released I want to avoid any spoilers. Clint Eastwood plays an aging Baseball scout who is likely on his last trip during which he is joined by his estranged daughter played by Amy Adams. The plot is predictible but the performances by Eastwood and Adams are solid. Fortunetly the two share a lot of screen time. The movie holds no major surprises but it is well acted and entertaining. There are far worse ways to spend two hours of your life.

The Odd Couple review

Posted : 11 years, 8 months ago on 16 August 2012 07:17 (A review of The Odd Couple)

A true classic. Tony Randall and Jack Klugman were born to play Felix and Oscar. They are easily one of the all time great teams in American sitcom history. A wonderful show that is still laugh out loud funny. Highly reccomended.

The Six Million Dollar Man review

Posted : 11 years, 9 months ago on 16 July 2012 03:51 (A review of The Six Million Dollar Man )

The made for TV movie that introduced Lee Majors as the title character. A bit low key and slow by todays standards but it is entertaining and a good starting point for the subsequent series. Majors is quite effective in the role especially in the scenes were he attempts to come to terms with what he has been turned into. All in all a fine example of a 1970s TV movie.

Antitrust review

Posted : 11 years, 11 months ago on 3 June 2012 03:49 (A review of Antitrust)

A very lame and disappointing movie. There is potential there but it is never really used. If Rachael Leigh Cook wasn't in this movie I never would have finished watching it.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation review

Posted : 11 years, 11 months ago on 24 May 2012 08:19 (A review of G.I. Joe: Retaliation)

This movie has been rescheduled for release in March 2013 so it can be converted to 3D. This announcement was made by Paramount and
Hasbro on Wednesday May 23rd. This comes nearly a month before the movies planned release date. The official reason is so the movie can be converted to 3D but there have been reports of poor responses from test screening audiences.
